What is the Dapar Test?

The Dapar Test is a psychometric and cognitive assessment used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for evaluating new recruits. The purpose of this test is to help in determining the most suitable military roles for each candidate, ensuring effective and appropriate placement within the IDF.

When does a candidate take the Dapar Test?

The candidate will be notified by the IDF around his/her 16th birthday regarding the recruitment process. If the candidate does not have a set date for his/her Tzav Rishon by 16.5 years of age, then please contact them directly. The official website is https://www.mitgaisim.idf.il/, which will be used during your entire service with the IDF.

How is the Dapar scored?

Dapar score ranges from 10 to 90 at 10-point intervals. The candidate’s Dapar score is the most critical element in determining the candidate’s Kaba, a numeric figure used by the IDF to assist in the initial placement of the IDF candidate. The higher your Dapar score, the more options will be available to you. The goal of the course is to achieve a score at or above 60.

60:  good score, able to take officer’s training course, special forces, fighter pilot

70:  great score, able to enlist in most of the top intelligence units

80:  excellent score, able to enlist in all IDF options

90:  highest score, invited to the top intelligence units

Tips for the Dapar Test:

  1. Do not leave any questions blank (no penalty for guessing).
  2. You can skip questions and return to them if you are in the same test section.
  3. You will receive a piece of paper – write small and save space for the math.
  4. Bring your own pencils – the ones they give you aren’t ideal.
  5. Eat and drink before the test.
  6. Use the bathroom before the test.
  7. If you do not feel good do not start the test – once you start you cannot leave or retake the test.
  8. If you have waited a long time at the draft office and feel tired do not take the test – request to come back at a later date.
  9.  If you have a learning disability, bring valid documentation, and the army will give you more time. Generally, they will give you an extra 25% of additional time, which will not penalize you in any way.

About the instructor

Akiva "Brig" Boonswang is an Oleh from the United States and the father of an Ostrovsky high school student. He is one of the few master tutors in the US with over 20+ years of experience. Brig works full-time in the design of SAT/ACT preparatory materials. He also tutors the SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT, and guides families through the US college admission process.

As a lifelong lover of puzzles and games, Brig is excited to expand his repertoire to the Dapar test. "This test is fun to teach. I especially enjoy the sections dealing with figures. As a creator of various standardized test prep materials, I've learned the nuanced skills they measure. In addition, I've developed a deep fascination with figuring out how my students think and therefore how best to teach and motivate them."

Testimonials

With his expert tutelage and decades of experience, Brig was the perfect tutor for my daughter; she was able to achieve her highest potential score. I enthusiastically recommend Brig to anyone who doesn’t want to waste any time figuring out how to prepare for the Dapar (or for that matter, fight with their teenager)!

Brig was able to guide me through all aspects of this test! In addition to expertly advising me to take the English version even though my family made aliyah six years ago, he clearly explained the best thought process to utilize during test time. I am so happy that my parents made the investment!

BH, we heard about Akiva “Brig” over a Shabbat meal. My son was very nervous about this test, and I didn't know how best to help him prepare. After working with Brig for a month, he was able to score high enough to qualify for the officer training course - a dream come true!
